l have not corresponded with you for some time, not because I have not continued to support your congregation, l am still a staunch defender of your faith, I have hoped that things would get better, but I despair that they have not.

Today listening to E Milliband at the Labour conference was sickening.

I have no answers , but can assure you that many decent Christians are supporting Israel still

I remain yours sincerely

I realise, at these very testing times, many Christians who support Israel’s right to exist and right to defend itself against those who wish to destroy the only Jewish state in existence, and, indeed, the only true democracy in the Middle East, what has happened in Gaza is troubling. Miliband is not truly representative of Jewish public opinion, being a Marxist, who sees everything through the lens of the assumed “oppressed”. The facts are on the 7 October 2023 a terrible crime was committed by Hamas against innocent people has been lost in the mountain of adverse publicity from a press that is anti-Zionist, leaves many people bewildered. The Palestinians, living in Gaza, voted in Hamas, knowing its agenda for the annihilation of Israel; the IDF in combatting a ruthless opponent tried its upmost to minimise civilian casualties, fighting an urban war, which most military commentators recognise as extremely difficult, and statistically the deaths and injuries are well within the limits of what military strategists would regard as acceptable, not to deny every life lost is to be regretted, it is understandable many supporters or erstwhile supporters of Israel would be confused, saddened and unsure how to respond to the presentation of, what I believe, is a distortion of the facts. In Britain we have not faced the existential threat of annihilation by a fanatical enemy, and therefore it is easy to be persuaded that the issues surrounding the conflict between Israel and the proponents of terrorism is black and white. Christian friends of Israel recognise the importance of the survival of the Jewish state. In conclusion, please take the time to look at the issues dispassionately and not be swayed by Jews, a minority, who, in many respects, are ashamed of their identity, Miliband and Polanski are current examples, who wish to present a one-sided political view of what is going on in the Middle East.
