Yom Hashoah is a day set aside for Jews to remember the Holocaust. The name comes from the Hebrew word 'shoah', which means 'whirlwind'. Yom Hashoah was established in Israel in 1959 by law. It falls on the 27th of the Jewish month of Nissan, a date chosen because it is the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising This year Holocaust Remembrance Day begins the evening of Wednesday, April 27, 2022. David Friedman Painted so the World Would Not Forget. David Friedman fought antisemitism and racial hatred through painting the horrors he witnessed and to show them to the world. He translated his haunting memories into more than 100 paintings, drawings and etchings, and titled his series, Because They Were Jews! He supplemented his work with descriptions, creating a singularly detailed pictorial and written record of the Holocaust. SIMPLY AMAZING  -  2 strangers fleeing Ukraine meet and realize they are SISTERS! Valentina (46) and Mariana (53) were complete strangers prior to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. On February 27th they both fled Ukraine and headed for Poland, with their final destination being Israel (they each had a son who already lived there and they wanted to join them). Mariana's parents divorced when she was a young child and her father went on to re-marry and have another daughter (Valentina). Unfortunately, he cut ties with his first family and the two half sisters grew up never knowing each other existed. They were complete strangers - UNTIL a Jewish Agency rep. who was helping to facilitate their flight to Israel read their last names to check in and THEY BOTH STOOD UP! They oddly looked at each other and after speaking, quickly figured out they were HALF SISTERS! In the chaos of war, these two women were fortunate enough to find each other! ...
