St.Anne’s Does Lake Windermere

Sukkot 2025 and the time has come to cast aside our sins. As luck would have it - we are not too big a stone's throw from Lake Windermere, which is well deep enough to hold a whole guilt-fest of sins. There was no shortage of takers when everyone was invited onto the Good Ship 'Tomfoolery' - ably steered around the lake by Captain Robert, excellently assisted by First Officer Ingrid, who provided wonderful refreshments from the galley. We were a motley crew and we were all exhausted and hungry after all that sin casting. I must add a short note about Captain Roberts commentary of the sites as we sailed along - which was not to be missed. (Oh, actually, it was !) :-) Here's  message from Rabbi Danny : Members of St Anne’s enjoyed a boat ride on Windermere - reciting Tashlich “throwing our sins into the depths of the sea - well lake Windermere is deep enough!Thank you to Robert and Ingrid for...

LJW – A Musical Extravaganza

Wednesday 13th August - the Shul was host to the Fylde Group of the League of Jewish Women's Annual Afternoon Tea. And what a Musical Extravaganza it was !  Elaine Green on violin accompanied by Graham Barber on keyboard entertained with what can only be described as A Class Act. The music - popular tunes from the musicals as well as old standards, and included a fabulous Gershwin section. It was beautifully played and thoroughly appreciated by the spellbound audience. In addition to the scrumptious 3 course Afternoon Tea provided by the Ladies Social Circle, there was a table quiz, an interactive game, and our notoriously famous raffle. We were delighted that so many people supported the event from Manchester, Southport, Leeds and even Leicester. ...

BBQ Report 2025

Well, it didn't rain!  It was gloriously sunny until just before the start of the BBQ, but the clouds were friendly and the breeze was light, so this year the weather was with us.  Perhaps the Rabbi had a word with the Boss? But most importantly,  we must say a huge thank you to the Red Arrows who very kindly treated us to a low but noisy flyover, as the entertainment of the day.  It hadn't been easy to arrange, but the boys in red came through for us 😀. To say the garden was heaving would be an understatement.  They came from far and wide - well Manchester,  Southport and Leeds in the main, with a couple specially arriving from Leicester.   The M6 was it's usual pain in the xx*#, with long queues coming for the Blackpool Airshow, making the usual 45mins from Manchester, into a 2 hour treck. But this year was a record with over 80 (that's the number...

Midsummer MDA FUNDRAISER Concert and Dinner – The Movie

What a night ! Despite the major setback of Rabbi Danny - the star of the concert - becoming unfortunately 'indisposed' the day before - a magnificent cast rose to the challenge and presented a fantastic concert. OK It was cobbled together on the day, but you couldn't tell (wink wink) - but judge for yourselves.  The videos are below ! Dinner was also judged a resounding success, from the Bucks Fizz cocktails while Dave Windle and Mike Frankel serenaded everyone in, to the 3 course homemade dinner created by the ladies of the Social Circle. The players, including Tzvi Bergson, Elliott Cohen, Stuart Levi, Tony Slome and Elaine Green, as well as Mike Frankel and Dave Windle worked their socks off - they entertained us royally ! The raffle contained the usual superlative prizes, and winners were given a proviso to grin, pretend to be thrilled and to actually take their winnings home instead of reject....errm I mean re-donating them. Click on each video -...

We Met the Brummies !

Unusually it was a cold, windy and rainy day in St. Annes on Shabbat 7th June - but inside the shul hall the atmosphere was gloriously warm and glowing ! We were absolutely delighted to host Rabbi and Rebbetzen Jacobs and a party of their members from Birmingham Singers Hill Synagogue - who came for the weekend and joined our members for Kiddush Lunch. The two male choirs sang like angels at the arc to a packed synagogue, before Rabbi Jacobs gave an uplifting and inspiring guest sermon. A 3-course Kiddush Lunch was served in the main hall and we were treated to a further interesting talk by Rebbetzen Jacobs, not without a moment's disruption by her 2 year old who wasn't impressed, but was quickly whisked away by papa, although not before a muted howl of annoyance and shedding a disappointed tear :-) It's no surprise - we can't wait for them to come again ! ...

Celebrating Yom Ha’atzmaut 1st May 2025

Members and friends of the community joined for a grand breakfast in honour and celebration of Yom Ha'atzmaut. The rabbi spoke about the importance of the state of the Jew as much as the state of Israel . Every moment of Jewish and Israel’s existence is a miracle which we must acknowledge by connecting to our people with bonds of love and faith informed by our ancient tradition. ...
