An Amazing letter

My cousin in USA, Rabbi Shai, posted this on his social media. Relevant now especially in the light of what's happening in our schools here in UK. An Amazing letter written by a Jewish Canadian College Professor. Dear Students, I have spent the last 25 years showing you the beauty of all of the literary, cultural, philosophical, and artistic heights of the human spirit over the course of human history. Teaching you has been the most wonderful and satisfying of callings. I never wanted to do anything other than meet with you, discuss ideas with you, discover and rediscover human insights, truths, and wonders. I never regretted my career path, never hated my job, and never doubted my legacy. I felt privileged and honoured to show you how to analyse, to think critically, to weigh evidence, and to understand people and ideas, contexts and complexity, deeply and thoroughly. I thought my work was helping to make the world a better, more humane, more...

Reality Check!

After the weekend solemnities in which the pro-Palestinian march and the far-right counter-demonstration showed contempt for those wishing to mourn the dead of two World Wars and subsequent military operations, I felt the need to go on the offensive, spelling out what the facts are rather than accepting this constant distortion of reality. I was very disappointed to see that lunatic bunch, Neturei Karta, supporting the enemies of Israel! Best wishes Peter Beyfus Reality Check! NOV 13, 2023, 7:20 AM “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.” Martin Luther King Jr. Only the most naïve person would believe fighting an urban war is going to be free of civilian casualties. Hamas has embedded itself in public buildings and has a network of underground tunnels that are stockpiled with armaments, food and fuel. This subterranean labyrinth  provides shelter for Hamas terrorists to  take refuge, enabling combatants to launch hit and run operations against the IDF but providing rat...

A Different Point of View about Israel/Gaza

I am a member of the Herzlia Culteral Group - HCG - who have organized  a series of talks every three days by Herb Keinon a senior journalist at the Jerusalem Post updating the Gazan war from non military aspect. I find them very informative giving points of view that you don’t hear or read in the non Israeli media. The talks are a half hour long. Best regards - Moshe Richman   Below is the link to the 4th "War Briefing" by Herb Keinon on 8 November: https://us06web.zoom.us/rec/share/n_XP6AUZmKEqzRBGg4v59VgFoy5-o6vNTCAXiZML5p2pyuMqHa56U1XV8SuVU0nK.Y0Oqp79bkihTDqcm    ...

JRC Meeting with Andy Burnham

Good morning Our Chair, Mark Adlestone and our Chief Executive, Marc Levy met with the Metro Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham last week following his statement in support of a ceasefire in Gaza. They were joined by Northern Regional Director of Community Security Trust, Amanda Bomsztyk. Please see below our statement issued subsequent to this meeting. Laurie Burnley-Myers Head of Operations   T: 0161 720 8721 E: office@jewishmanchester.org W: www.jewishmanchester.org Fb: JewishManchester Tw: @JewishMCR   6 November 2023 The JRC and CST met Andy Burnham to discuss the statement signed by stakeholders from the Greater Manchester Combined Authority on the 27th October 2023 regarding the current situation in Israel and Gaza.  CST referenced how the situation impacts Jewish communities across Greater Manchester who are currently experiencing unprecedented levels of hate crime.  Due to our excellent relationship with the Metro Mayor and other signatories, it was important to have the opportunity to engage in a frank, open and forthright exchange of views. Although we agreed with the sentiments expressed in most of the statement and reiterate every civilian death is a tragedy...

During this challenging time, we have been grateful for the unequivocal support given by Greater Manchester Police and those elected to represent us. Many of the signatories to your statement either spoke or stood in solidarity with the community at our vigil in St Peter's Square. It is a shame that the same messages of peace, fighting prejudice and tolerance could not be heard at the pro-Palestinian marches across the country as mainstream politicians are reluctant to attend...

‘Put not your trust in princes’ Psalm 146

In the wake of the latest UN resolution, calling for an humanitarian truce but, predictably,  omitting to demand a ceasefire from Hamas and the return of hostages, and the pro-Palestinian demonstration in London where protestors called for an intifada from London to Gaza, it is time to hold the UN to account for its shameful partisanship. Please see the link below to my ‘Times of Israel’ blog. Best wishes, Am Yisrael Chai! Peter Beyfus https://blogs.timesofisrael.com/put-not-your-trust-in-princes-psalm-146/  ...
