Refugee Task Force Update

JSCN is a member of the Refugee Task Force convened by the JLC and Board of Deputies. I thought you would like an update on the knowledge that is currently being shared. Not many Jewish refugees have chosen to come to the UK. Most are going to Israel. Of those that are arriving in the UK, most are being directed by World Jewish Relief to specific locations in the London area where targeted support is being provided. Other Jewish communities around the country, notably Birmingham, have mobilised to support any Ukrainian refugees arriving in their area. You are probably aware that the visa process is delaying the arrival of many refugees. Below are some highlight points with links.   World Jewish Relief will be hosting a Webinar on 23rd May designed to inform people about the sponsorship process to help them decide if this is something they would like to do. Anyone is welcome to join the webinar, you can sign up here / circulate the link: https://www.worldjewishrelief.org/get-involved/events/1322-homes-for-ukraine-webinar World Jewish Relief have expanded their STEP...

When Lytham Met St. Anne’s

A Century Since Lytham & St Anne’s Came Together It was the 100th anniversary of the former official union of the towns Lytham and St Anne’s into one single council area and it was marked with two special ceremonies.  The establishment of the Borough of Lytham St.Anne’s came into effect by an Act of Parliament on 1st May 1922.  However, this was to end in 1974 when both towns regained their own identity as part of the Fylde Borough. However, Lytham St.Anne’s lives on not only by Royal Mail but also in the marketing of our area as a great tourist destination. Meanwhile, St.Anne’s now has its own Town Council. Invited guests to the celebration included Fylde MP Mark Menzies, current and former Fylde and St Anne’s Town Councillors along with civic society members from both towns.  After the proclamation cries, the guests attended a reception in Fylde’s Town Hall – previously the home of Lytham St Anne’s Council – to hear a...
