AJA should know better than this. There were a number of Jews (Maranos) including the well known Rodrigo Lopes who was physician to Queen Elizabeth I and who met an unfortunate end. He figures in Christopher Marlowe’s play The Jew of Malta.“When I rule this land called England I will make sure that all the Jewish people are not FORCED to become market traders and money lenders they deserve something better”..Oliver Cromwell lord protector England,Scotland,Ireland…Cromwell had an agenda to convert the Jews due to his religious beliefs. He invited them back for several reasons and conversion was one of them. Charles II was much more enlightened and wanted them back with no such agendaHatred of the Jews was sustained and encouraged by the Church and that went in for centuries.

I understand that Cromwell invited them back but luckily they did not return before he died. Bec. Charles hated Cromwell so that he cancelled ALL that he accomplished. If the Jews had returned because of Cromwell he would have re-evicted them.
