Ladies and Gentlemen, I know you've hardly been able to contain your excitement for the past few weeks, in anticipation of the star studded spectacular you're about to see. Despite the fact that Steven Spielberg has been constantly phoning, texting, WhatsApping and generally making a nuisance of himself begging for our Alte Macher Players to headline at the Hollywood Bowl, our loyal cast have declined the multi million pound offer and insisted on playing this show for you here today. Months of rehearsals, (and blood, sweat and tears have been plentiful), but nevertheless, the show must go on. Miketz- (Chanukah Theme) The Infinite importance of small things The Menorah (Chanukiah) we light today commemorates the Menorah that was lit in the Temple which was a fulfilment of a Godly command (Bamidbar 8:1 see below) The Menorah was one of the key components of the Bet Hamikdash. But does God really need our light? God transcends His creation. He is beyond the trivialities of existence. On a broader level we can develop this question on the whole of the Torah and its myriad of Mitzvot and Halachot? In particular, the ritual aspects of Judaism are filled with many details some quite technical. Does God really care about our ritualistic actions? Yet Chanukah an entirely ritualistic aspect of Judaism is beloved by all Jews regardless of their religious level. This must represent something deeper and powerful about the Jewish soul. I’m not from Europe. But the Twitter warrior didn’t care, and just ranted on about the Jews leaving “Palestine” alone, and going back to wherever they came from. So let’s talk about this. Where are the Jews from? Take my family for example. I’ll start at an easy point: My grandparents on my dad’s side are from Iraq. We don’t have any family left there, because they were all either chased out, or murdered for being Jewish. Family records show that despite on and off persecution, they had lived there since the Babylonian expulsion, over 2,000 years ago. My mom grew up in Argentina, where her parents were born.
