What a great idea !
An informal and enjoyable afternoon of ladies chat, with a little light hearted learning, courtesy Rebbetzen Anna (“call me Anna”)
17 ladies attended in the relaxed surroundings of The Glendower Hotel – kindly hosted by Michelle Morris (she who brought the kichels) on behalf of ‘call me Anna’.
Because some of us (well probably all) are quite nosy, of course we all wanted to know Anna’s journey to Rebbetzen-land
At the tender age of 8 years, Anna and her secular family, lived opposite Rabbi Portnoy and his wife along with their 9 children.
Every Shabbat, Anna would watch Mrs Portnoy walking to shul and even at that tender age – the flame was lit in her to follow in Mrs. Portnoy’s footsteps.
(Although not with the 9 children …. probably)
We also learned Anna discovered that when Shabbat and Yomtov coincided and created 3 consecutive religious days – it presented a major dilemma in the makeup department !
Anna has an articulate and light manner as a teacher, and the assembled company were engrossed in her explanation of parshas – in fact so much so, that we forgot to take a photo !
However, the illustration at the top of the page is a very good represention 🙂
So – from this great idea – others have blossomed.
There’s much interest in regular bi monthly informal meetings for Anna to talk about the Sedras – Jennie Lipshaw offering to host the first one – date to be announced.
Also – a regular meeting hosted by Sarah Galasko to brush up on Hebrew reading and understanding the service.
As a first – we didn’t know quite what to expect from this inaugural (please note gentlemen – we don’t want to labour the point too strongly – Ladies Only) get together, but the general consensus was that it was highly enjoyable and more please !
