Holocaust Memorial Day 2020 at St. Anne’s Shul

Over 200 people attended the Holocaust Memorial Day at the St. Anne’s Synagogue as well as many local dignitaries including The High Sherriff of Lancashire Ralph Assheton, TD DL, a representative of the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire , Rosie Stone, the Mayors of Fylde and Blackpool and other Parishes, Mark Menzies MP for Fylde, and representatives of many religions and of the Police and of six of the local schools, whose pupils put on very emotional and inspiring performances.

A moving talk was given by Trude Silman who grew up in Bratislava, then capital of Czechoslovakia. Aged 9, she escaped the country by train with her aunt and cousin and arrived in England. Trude still lives in Leeds, where she is an active member of numerous voluntary organisations including HSFA. She regularly speaks about her experiences as a child moving to England and spreads a message of tolerance and hope.

The event was concluded with the High Sheriff of Lancashire presenting certificates to all the students who had participated, and the congregation were invited to refreshments.
