We were delighted to welcome our local Fylde MP, Mark Menzies, to the Ladies Circle weekly Zoom social for a Q & A Session, hosted by Rabbi Danny Bergson.
The first question, from our president, Robert Pinkus, was for an update on the long awaited link road which is to run from Cypress Point, Lytham to Whitehills roundabout at the start of the M55.
The cost is £24m and the funding is all in place, assembled mostly by the Government.
Some pre-works were started 2 years ago, and currently Lancashire County Council are finalising legal documents with the various landowners. This should be completed within a matter of weeks. At this point work can commence. It’s anticipated that initial works will be underway in the early part of 2021 and will take 2 years.
This will be a high quality A road, with a bridle way running alongside.
Although the link road is the MP’s main priority, it forms a part of a major investment into St. Anne’s regeneration, including upgrades to the rail system.
The town centre shops have been in decline in recent years, but the aim is to attract digital and high tech businesses to the floors above the shops.
It’s hoped this will attract a younger and more affluent influx of people.
