Following a course I took with Israel organisation Maaglei Hanefesh on mental health and Halacha (under the auspices of the Spanish and Portuguese senior rabbi )
I am proud to share their magazine for Rosh Hashana which features an article of mine.
There are some fascinating meaningful insights enjoy 😊
Rabbi Danny’s time- relevant article ‘Bouncing Back or Bouncing Forward’ raises important questions about how one deals with loss, whether it be the death of a loved one or a sense of losing a possession or, indeed, oneself. This is why the yamim noraim gives us time for reflection , time to seek comfort from G-d, and, importantly, time to move on, for to stay static, unmoved by the past year’s personal events, is a negation of what these Days of Awe are about. Following on from Rabbi Danny’s theme of returning to the point before the event and linking this to the concept of teshuvah, there is, in reality, no way we can occupy the same temporal-space again; it has passed like the turning of a page of a book. Yes, possible to review but not to relive. Teshuvah is often translated as “return” or “repentance”. This is not some mystical journey to a distant idyllic past but a recognition a shift of focus is required of us if we are to avoid repeating our failing of the past year, whether they be selfishness, greed and a whole battery of less than noble behaviours. And this is where the idea of bouncing forward is important because bouncing back is not an option because that offers nothing but grief. The journey continues, and, as with our father Abraham, we do not know the terminal point, but the way can only be forward.
