Israel’s ambassador to the UK presents credentials to the Queen

Envoy Tzipi Hotovely appeared at Buckingham Palace for ceremony delayed by the pandemic, with Her Majesty participating remotely from Windsor Castle

Israeli Ambassador Tzipi Hotovely has presented her credentials to the Queen during an official ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

The envoy arrived alongside her husband Or Alon, as she met with the Head of State via video link to officially become the first woman in the role.

The former Israeli minister was supposed to present her credentials last year after being appointed in August 2020.

However, the pandemic delayed the ceremony, while the Queen, who is remaining in residence at Windsor Castle, participated in remotely.

Hotovely said after the ceremony: “It is especially exciting to be the first female Israeli Ambassador to the UK and to meet with Her Majesty.

“The Queen has given me her blessing, and this ceremony has solidified the strong ties between our two democracies. I had the privilege of expressing my deep gratitude and appreciation to her Majesty on behalf of the State of Israel.”

“The strategic cooperation between our two countries is based on our shared values, and has reached new heights in the fields of diplomacy, security, culture and technology. Above all, this year we have seen innovative joint work in the medical field.

“The Israeli Health Ministry, is cooperating with its British counterparts and the NHS to cope together with this crisis. I am proud to serve as Israel’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom and look forward to continuing to promote the strategic and bilateral relations between our two countries.”

The ambassador of Israel to the United Kingdom, Tzipi Hotovely, accompanied by her husband and 3 daughters, presented her credentials to Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom at Buckingham Palace this past week.
Hotovely’s husband, Or Alon, talked about his brief conversation with the 95-year-old queen on his Facebook page. “After a surprisingly flowing conversation between Tzipi and the Queen, she turned to me and we talked a little. Then I asked her: what is one piece of life advice she can give us in light of her rich experience.
”The Queen did not answer immediately, it was completely out of protocol. She thought about it, pondered and then said: ‘If I had to give only one piece of advice, it would be to invest in human connections. There is nothing more important in life than connecting with other people, and I think the last year has made that very clear’.”
Or Alon added: ”This is the one piece of advice given by the woman who has ruled England for nearly 70 years. And from this, we can understand just how important this point is to her – and how important it is that we start implementing it ourselves”.
At the end of the meeting, he asked the Queen for one last request. “I told her that in Judaism it is customary to say a blessing when meeting a king or a queen, and I asked if it was possible to bless her. The Queen agreed. I said the blessing aloud, on behalf of myself and all of the State of Israel which we represent here:
‘Blessed…Who has given of His glory to flesh and blood’ and immediately translated everything I said. The Queen smiled, and thanked us excitedly. To me, the royal advice and the blessing of the kings were the highlights of the event”.
