Chanukah 2023 - Over 100 people crowded into St. Anne's Town Hall to attend the lighting of the 8th candle.  We were generously hosted by the Lady Mayoress of St. Annes who also welcomed many local political and religious dignitaries, as well as a party of local school children. There was an equally large turnout from our community and from local people, who joined us, and to whom we give our grateful thanks for their support. Rabbi Danny Bergson recounted the Story of Chanukah before one of the children lit the 8 candles - and tea/coffee and doughnuts were the order of the day. ...

On Sunday 10th December 2023, around 60 people braved the rain and wind to join us at our Israeli Solidarity Chanukah Party, including guests from Manchester and Southport, as well as representative of our local police, to whom we gave our thanks for the wonderful support they've given us in recent times. 50% of the donations  paid today will go to Magen David Adom, Israel’s version of the Red Cross, along with a further amount raised at a coffee morning held a week or so ago at the home of our treasurer, Ian and Anne Glass.  These two events have raised around £2500. We hope that this year our annual Chanukah Party represents the depth of feeling and sorrow we have for the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Israel today and in the past two months. On Wednesday 29th November 2023, our Ladies Circle held a wonderfully successful Coffee Morning to raise funds to support the excellent work of Magen David Adom, Manchester Branch, who are collecting to supply a Bloodmobile to Israel. Our massive thanks to Anne and Ian Glass who generously donated the run of their house for our event ! (and well done to Lucas who didn't bark once!) We also wish to give many thanks to our Opener, Michelle Morris and to our speakers, Belinda and Peter Black from MDA (Manchester). We're delighted to say that the success of our Tombola, our Cake Sale, our Book Sale and our Gifts Sale, along with many donations, raised the huge sum of ........ £1982.50 !! On a warm sunny afternoon in August, the Fylde Group of the League of Jewish Women hired the Daniel Rose Hall to hold their Annual Summer Afternoon Tea. The event attracted over 90 people, including many from Manchester branches of the League, who migrated all the way up the M6, to our lovely town by the sea. The event was catered on home territory by the Ladies Social Circle of the St. Annes Synagogue. The 'Surprise Mystery Guest Opener' certainly surprised the gathered visitors - welcoming them to the event was Kila Redfern, the FIRST LADY TOWN CRIER OF LYTHAM. Kila Refern swinging her bells and shouting her cry as she entered the crowded hall and made her way to the stage to proclaim the event open ! Kila delighted the guests by recounting how she became the First Lady and what her ceremonial duties consist of.  That outfit was stunning - although with the temperature outside on the day, one had to feel...

It's been 12 long years since the last wedding took place in the Synagogue. But that record was broken on 6th August 2023 when Linda and Jonathan Brook tied the knot under the chuppah and welcomed around 100 guests to a celebration in the Daniel Rose Hall. What a Treat We Had ! Rabbi Yossi Jacobs and Rebbetzen Rachel Jacobs escorted a party from Singers Hill Synagogue in Birmingham to visit us in St. Annes. After a stroll on the beach and a shmy around the shops in the square - the party called on us at the shul on Orchard Road to have a look at our lovely shul and join us for afternoon tea in the hall. Rebbetzen Rachel told us that her 18 years at Singers Hill had been a little busy - having escorted coach trips to just about every small Jewish Community in the UK  - and soon Dublin and Morocco are on the cards to follow ! St. Anne's Synagogue is proud to host a yearly visit from a group of Israeli Soldiers suffering from after effects of military service. This year, 2023, saw a group of 15 arrive early morning, on a coach from Manchester and were put to work to display their prowess on the pitch and putt on Lytham Green. Sadly this is the day our fickle British weather chose to break - and grey skies and drizzle replaced the glorious sunshine we've had for weeks. (We don't think they minded - they must have heard about the weather cos they all dressed for it !) The bracing winds on the green soon worked up an appetite, and so it was off to lunch at the shul, prepared by the Ladies Circle and hosted and sponsored by members of the community. After weeks of gorgeous weather. hot and sunny with blue skies, everyone was watching the forecast for the Sunday of the BBQ.  Wouldn't you just know it !  From the days before the special day,  the forecast was showing RAIN! However, luckily Rabbi Danny had a word in the ear of his best pal, God, and, miracle of miracles, there was NO RAIN. But - (there's always one but), I think he had another word, because on the dot of 4pm, God decided enough was enough. He spoke -  and at the first roll of thunder, there was a mass exodus from the garden, thus allowing the Bergson family who had so kindly hosted the BBQ to clear up in good time.  (Ensuring no stragglers :-) ) We'd been blessed with fine weather while we needed it, but we paid the price, as not just any rain, but a massive thunderstorm followed. ...
